Dysprosium (Dy Metal)

Dysprosium is a silver-white metal with the element symbol Dy, soft and can be cut with a knife. It plays an important role in many high-tech fields, including:

1. Dysprosium can be used as an additive of Ndfeb permanent magnet. Adding about 2~3% of dysprosium to the magnet can significantly improve its coercivity. With the increasing demand for Ndfeb magnets, dysprosium becomes a necessary added element.

2. Dysprosium can also be used as a phosphor activator, which is a promising activating ion of single-emitting center three-color luminescent material, mainly composed of two emission bands, respectively yellow and blue light emission.

3. Dysprosium is also used in the field of lighting. For example, the working substance used in dysprosium lamp is dysprosium iodide. This lamp has the advantages of large brightness, good color, high color temperature, small volume, and arc stability, and has been used in lighting light sources such as film and printing.

4. Because the dysprosium element has a large neutron capture cross-sectional area, it is used to determine the neutron energy spectrum or to make the neutron absorber in the atomic energy industry.
